WHAT IS A TOTAL SOLAR ECLIPSE?
A Solar Eclipse happens when the Moon passes between the Sun and the Earth. A TOTAL Solar Eclipse happens during stages of the eclipse in which the Moon’s shadow completely blocks the Sun for a few minutes only.

- NASA will be launching three rockets into the moon’s shadow during this total solar eclipse for tech research. It’s named the APEP mission, named after an Egyptian god.
- Several planets might be visible during the solar eclipse depending on the weather. The planet Jupiter and Venus will be the most visible.
- The Devil Comet might be visible during this solar eclipse and will shine its brightest green color when it gets close to Jupiter.
- CERN situated in Franco-Swiss border near Geneva will be activating the Large Hadron Collider during this solar eclipse. it’s known to be the most powerful particle accelerator in the world.
- During this solar eclipse, the lack of sunlight will make the temperature drop up to 5-10 degrees for a couple of minutes, making it colder.
- The city of Carbondale in Illinois will get to experience the longest solar eclipse close to 5 minutes. It has been called the Eclipse Crossroads for its rare phenomenon of the intersection of it’s two eclipse paths.
- Several million Quebecers live along the path of totality of this solar eclipse. One of the best places to observe this rare phenomenon will be in Lac-Megantic, the heart of Quebec Astronomy.
- Eyes are precious. Always remember to not look directly at the solar eclipse without proper protection.
