WHAT IS A TOTAL SOLAR ECLIPSE?

A Solar Eclipse happens when the Moon passes between the Sun and the Earth. A TOTAL Solar Eclipse happens during stages of the eclipse in which the Moon’s shadow completely blocks the Sun for a few minutes only.

  1. NASA will be launching three rockets into the moon’s shadow during this total solar eclipse for tech research. It’s named the APEP mission, named after an Egyptian god.
  2. Several planets might be visible during the solar eclipse depending on the weather. The planet Jupiter and Venus will be the most visible.
  3. The Devil Comet might be visible during this solar eclipse and will shine its brightest green color when it gets close to Jupiter.
  4. CERN situated in Franco-Swiss border near Geneva will be activating the Large Hadron Collider during this solar eclipse. it’s known to be the most powerful particle accelerator in the world.
  5. During this solar eclipse, the lack of sunlight will make the temperature drop up to 5-10 degrees for a couple of minutes, making it colder.
  6. The city of Carbondale in Illinois will get to experience the longest solar eclipse close to 5 minutes. It has been called the Eclipse Crossroads for its rare phenomenon of the intersection of it’s two eclipse paths.
  7. Several million Quebecers live along the path of totality of this solar eclipse. One of the best places to observe this rare phenomenon will be in Lac-Megantic, the heart of Quebec Astronomy.
  8. Eyes are precious. Always remember to not look directly at the solar eclipse without proper protection.
